Stinky Mecca is a threefor

Mecca stinks, and the locals agree!

Mecca California, that is.
A "propane like" smell caused a panic reaction at a local school causing paramedics to respond.
It was determined the source was a landfill that receives and treats contaminated soil.

Naturally, the government was more than ready to swoop in and nail someone to a cross for this heinous deed.
They did not get far though.
You see, the site is operating on Tribal land and not subject to the administrative laws that can ruin your company in the time it take a bureaucrat to fill out a form D226.
The regulators still managed to shut down operations and prevent more contaminated soil from being received but the smell, while diminished, is still there.

It is important to note that tests of the surrounding area show no 'significant' levels of toxins in the soil or air.
So I guess the headaches, asthma attacks, nosebleeds and other symptoms are psychosomatic.

So, in one story we learn that Mecca stinks, Indian sovereignty is easily abused, and people get sick merely because something stinks.

Pelosi's district gets 20% of Obamacare waivers

Nancy Pelosi was the head Cheerleader for Obamacare.
Nancy kept telling us how much cheaper and better healthcare would be once the law was in full effect.
Now that it is getting closer to full operation, Nancy's district has begun receiving waivers that allow businesses to opt out.
20 percent of the 204 new waivers went to snooty restaurants and hip nightclubs in Pelosi's district.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Will the Liberals in San Francisco boycott these businesses?
Do they even care, or are they ready to excuse them because they are owned by the right (left) kind of rich people?

How many did we miss?

A radical Muslim cleric was caught in the trunk of a Mexican vehicle attempting to enter the US.
43 year old Said Jaziri has called for the death of a Danish cartoonist for mocking the prophet Mohamed and claims that Homosexuality is a disease.
He was deported from Canada in 2007 and claimed that he was mistreated on the way back to Tunisia.
It is a little confusing that the article claims he was in a car, but also states he walked across the border.
More confusing is why he would want to come to California if he is a Homophobe.
Maybe he was coming out of the closet.

So, how many Muslim Clerics made it across already?

California the LiLo of America?

Allysa Finley tells us in the Wall Street Journal that the People's Republik of Kalifornia is the Lindsay Lohan of states.
I cannot disagree.
Let's look at the list:
California is an adolescent brat with delusions of grandeur.
California is self destructive.
California is addicted to spending money like there is no tomorrow.
California is seen as a continuing train wreck by the rest of the states.
All attempts at rehab have thus far failed.

Yup, Allysa is absolutely right!

No more psychic readings for welfare recipients

The Governator announced that Psychics, pot shops, and other businesses deemed "inconsistent" with the intent of welfare.
Cruise ships, bingo halls and tattoo parlors have also been removed from the approved point of sale list where welfare cards can be used.
Of course, as one commenter stated: "So, they can still go to WalMart and buy beer and cigarettes?"

CARB estimate of pollution exaggerated by 340%

When you lie to the government, you can be fined or jailed.
When the government lies to you, your taxes go up and your freedom is restricted.
There is a ballot measure in California proposing to temporarily roll back harsh pollution restrictions that was justified in part by calculations of diesel pollutants present in the air.
It turns out that the estimates were 340% more than actual levels.
I hope this not only gets people to vote to stop the new restrictions, but also leads to the microscopic examination of pollution research used to enact restrictive laws and regulations that cost us jobs and our freedom.

Municipal Mergers?

Cash strapped cities in California are considering the "D" word as a solution to their fiscal woes.
No, I don't mean Democrat (that's what caused the problem), I mean dis-incorporate.
Over the last twenty years, many cities have incorporated in order to retain tax revenue that would normally go to the county and retain more autonomy.
With dis-incorporation, the taxes and power return to the county along with the fiscal responsibilities.
It isn't clear if the move by cities like Half Moon Bay will resolve issues with employee unions, but the responsibility will be the county's and perhaps they will be able to justify layoffs due to duplication.
Public employee unions in California have effectively blocked cities from declaring bankruptcy unless approved by a state board stacked with pro-union members which will not approve any deal that doesn't insure union members still get everything promised them.

Isn't this solution the municipal equivalent of a merger or acquisition?

Proposition 25 end run to increase taxes

Proposition 25 is not getting a lot of attention.
It allows for budgets to be passed by simple majority and provides legislature pay penalties for late budgets.
The proponents of the bill are touting it as a fix for the broken budget process and stressing the penalties for lawmakers if they miss their deadline.
Opponents point out that a simple majority passing the budget will allow the majority to insert tax increases into the budget as amendments or force increases through unfunded mandates.
The legislative analyst hasn't cleared the air as their interpretation focuses on the wording of the bill by stating that it does not "say" anything about increasing taxes within the budget and therefore does not have to be labeled as a vehicle for easing increases.

Unfortunately for California taxpayers, polling suggests they will vote for this pig.

Pot prices plunging?

Not really, but the is the rumor some are floating in the Republik of Kalifornia.
Pot advocates are claiming that lower quality weed isn't selling well so prices for that portion of the market is down for now but high grade weed prices are relatively steady.
The part of the story that got my attention is the South Park connection.
South Park did an episode about medical MJ and Kentucky Fried Chicken where the KFC closed and an MJ dispensary opened in the building.
The picture for this story is priceless.
