Yeah, it's that bad

You know things are bad when people steal rails from an active railroad track.
A CSX train in Taunton, MA derailed after crossing a section of track where thieves had stolen a length of rail, supposedly for scrap sale.

The thing about this kind of crime is that it isn't easy or smart.
First, you need a heavy cutting torch.
Then you need a lonely section of track (although in another case, the thieves operated in sight of the company whose spur line they were cutting).
The cut rails are HEAVY!
The scrap yard will hear about the derailment and remember you.
You are responsible for any damage or injury, like when a dozen tank cars spew toxic waste or burn down a town.
And last but nit least, it is a federal offense to mess with the railroad infrastructure.

I guess things are pretty bad if people feel compelled to do something like this.

$4.6M bridge for horses in Mass.

The Bluehills reservation in Randolf Massachusetts is split by the northernmost portion of the I-24.
There was a bridge across the freeway for horses and hikers, but it was unreliable and unrepairable.
The original estimate of $2M went up to $4.6M and stimulus funds are paying for it.
If you find the bridge on Google Maps, you will see the new construction and you will also see that there is NO ROAD. It is just a trail!
$4.6M for a horse bridge?

I guess they don't have a casino.

Thousands of patient records found at landfill

4 Massachusetts community hospitals are scrambling to figure out how thousands of unshredded patient records, complete with personal information like social security information, ended up in a landfill despite legal requirements to destroy such records before they are released for disposal.
Partial blame has already been placed on the methods used for required sharing of information with outside specialists and labs.
Once records leave the hands of hospital administration, they no longer have control.

Just think how hard it will be to track and erase digital data.

John "effing" Kerry, tax dodger

John Kerry bought a yacht for ~$7M and docked it in Rhode Island instead of his home state of Massachusetts.
Why?
Well Rhode Island doesn't charge the taxes that Mass. does, so Kerry avoided $473K of taxes.
Having the boat built in New Zealand instead of the US is a slap in the face to US boat builders and one wonders what taxes may have been avoided there.

None of us is holding our breath waiting for Kerry to be hurt by all of this.
Massachusetts voters have consumed way too much cool aid.

Will they boycott Massachusetts?

I doubt Liberals in states like Kalifornia will call for a boycott of Massachusetts over their new law cracking down on illegals.
They will weasel their way out of it by actually reading this law to find out how they can claim it isn't as hard on those poor criminal invaders.
