Victory over Viacom

Viacom's suit against You Tube over copyright infringement has failed.
The judge said that the safe harbor provision of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act allows You Tube to wait until notified of a violation before removing material from its site.

I think You Tube has behaved in a capricious and unfair manner when it comes to removing and retaining content based on purely political grounds, but the idea of making them do all the work because Viacom and others are lazy bugs me for some reason.

If you haven't seen one of the many Hitler parodies based on a rant from an actor (Bruno Ganz) during a scene where Hitler is in his bunker in the film Der Untergang (2004), then you have been living in a cave with no internet access.
A copyright infringement complaint has been made to You Tube on behalf of Constantin Films (who own the rights to the film) and the parodies have either disappeared or been blocked per content ID restrictions.
According the the article, there is no legal standing for a copyright complaint.
I agree.


It did not take long for the internet to answer the stupidity.
