Promoting incompetence

If you haven't heard by now, the ATF ran a "sting" operation that used straw buyers to obtain firearms and use them to catch gun runners supplying Mexico with weapons.
Two of those weapons were found at the scene where criminals killed a Border Patrol Agent.
People are still steamed about it and at the administration for allowing such a poorly thought out operation that actually delivered weapons to criminals south of the border.

Now three people that ran the operation have received promotions.
From the LA Times: "The three supervisors have been given new management positions at the agency's headquarters in Washington. They are William G. McMahon, who was the ATF's deputy director of operations in the West, where the illegal trafficking program was focused, and William D. Newell and David Voth, both field supervisors who oversaw the program out of the agency's Phoenix office."

As of this morning, Obama has made no statements claiming that anyone involved acted "stupidly".
