Google goes three wheeling

Is it going green?
Maybe it is a response to increased fuel costs.
Nope!
Google is using large (heavy?) tricycles to provide street views of parks and paved trails.
I wonder what they will do to protect the peddlers from those that hate Google's "spying"?

Fat Brit to sue NHS for "allowing" him to get there

A British man who recently (finally) received an operation to reduce his ability to absorb food, is threatening to sue the National Health Service (NHS) for "allowing" him to get so fat.
At his peak weight Paul Mason was consuming ten times the average caloric intake of an adult male.
I don't imagine there were any representatives of NHS forcing this food down his gullet or even bringing it to him, but they are apparently at fault by his reckoning.
I do have to agree with Mr. Mason that NHS should have approved the operation much sooner and that they should have had enough sense to send him to an eating disorder specialist instead of a dietitian when he first sought help but they failed to do even that until his weight more than doubled to 64 stone (896lbs).
NHS showed by not acting much sooner why we should NEVER accept government run healthcare and Mr. Mason shows one more reason why: It is too easy when someone else is supposedly "responsible" to just do whatever you want and blame them for not stopping you.

UK Media PWNED

Just like the American media that loudly shouted that we were going to freeze back in the '70s, British media outlets were claiming in 2000 that "snow is a thing of the past" due to global warming.
We can't even predict the weather more than a week out, but these idiots try to change every aspect of our lives because some neo-socialist, anti-capitalist tools say the planet will roast because we drive SUVs.
They need to be dragged out into the next snow storm in their skivvies and "interviewed" about how stupid and wrong they are.

I see a Nobel coming out of this

Scientists in the UK (Cambridge) have discovered a previously unknown method used by the body to destroy viruses once they enter cells.
It was thought that the game was over when the virus invaded an individual cell because the body's defenses could not follow, but the new discovery shows that antibodies can piggyback the virus and enter the cell with it.
Once in the cell, the antibody triggers the cell's defenses, which dismember the virus within hours.
Scientists hope to use this knowledge to help boost the body's response to viral infections from the common cold to HIV.

Gee, isn't Cambridge the source of Climategate?

Not very "Astute" management of British sub

Britain's most advanced nuclear attack submarine, the Astute, ran aground while performing maneuvers off Scotland.
The sub's captain opted not to use the sub's power to escape the ebbing tide as he did not want to damage the expensive tiles that make the sub so stealthy.
Commanding a nuke sub is an especially high honor in any navy.
Getting your nuke sub grounded is way beyond ordinary embarrassment.
This coming after a week where Britain's navy has endured deep, deep cuts only makes it worse.
I can only imagine that the walls in the office of the captain's superior were blistered during the "discussion" of his error.

UK wants the worker's paychecks

In a chillingly Socialist move, the UK government has proposed having all workers' paychecks go to the government first and the government depositing the remainder after deductions.
This is very scary stuff and the Obama administration is likely watching this very closely to see if they might get away with it.
Implementing the system would require massive data collection and data warehousing in order to calculate and track taxes and pay.
It would expose workers' private accounts to government mistakes and do away with their option (and right) to only pay at the year's end.
Given the reputation of government IT and data security, this is very scary stuff.
Add to that the bureaucratic reluctance to let people have so much as a penny back once they have their mitts on it, you have the makings of a very bad situation.

British Tabloids Hack People's Phones

The next time you think the American press has gone too far, remember this story.
Driven by constant pressure to outdo the competition or lose their jobs, UK reporters started hacking the mobile phones of celebrities, including the royal family.
Often, the hacking was simplified by the phone's owner not changing the password from the factory preset of 1111 or 4444 (for instance).
Once they were in, reporters would review voice and text messages to obtain information used in gossipy stories about the details of the victims' lives.
When the authorities figured out what was up they only focused on several reporters, and even then, only concerning certain victims.
After one victim hit the jackpot with a million pound court award, people began demanding that police tell them if they were also hacked because, as one lawyer put it, it was a "golden ticket" to a winnable lawsuit.

I think the worst aspect of this story is how lightly the police treaded when it came to punishing these criminals.
This is a clear cut case of illegal invasion of privacy.
The other part that bugs me is that people knew and didn't set the B*st*rds up with disinformation to embarrass the tabloids and hurt their credibility.

Terrorists win in UK

The UK had a stop and search right under what they call article 44 that allowed them to check people out merely because they felt they needed closer inspection.
The claim of "rights violation" was used to cause the suspension of article 44, requiring a reasonable suspicion of terrorist activity prior to stopping someone.
Well, now they are as handcuffed as we are and they have more militant Muslims in their population than we do.

Even Harry Potter actors aren't safe from Muslim stupidity

Afshan Azad, who played Padma Patil in several of the Potter films was recently attacked by her father and brother.
She was attacked in her own home and no reasons where supplied in the original article, although it is easy to assume the reason had something to do with males believing they are empowered by Allah to control females.

Based on the few photos of her that I have seen, she should have no trouble finding some English bloke to gladly pound her father and brother into the ground.

Muslim protesters in the UK need protection

In a scene similar to crazy American church members harassing relatives at soldiers' funerals, Muslim groups in the UK are protesting at ceremonies with/for soldiers returning from duty in Muslim countries.
When the Muslim protesters (who were not described as dark, or foreign) started yelling at the soldiers, they may have got more than they wanted.
Another group that supports the troops and knew they would be there started yelling back and hurled frozen pork sausages at them.
Police had to provide the Muslim Protesters "safe passage" when they decided to leave.
It's nice to know the Brits aren't taking it lying down.

Extreme bad parenting

A 29 year old woman had to be stopped and held for police by bystanders before her baby finally received help at a hospital for second degree sunburn over forty percent of his body.
When stopped, the woman appeared not to understand what she was being told and the people who stopped her observed that the baby was not just bright red from sunburn but had started to blister.
The mother may be facing charges for child neglect (duh!).

Still no license or training required to have children.

How many Muslims have they arrested?

A preacher in the UK got arrested for saying loud enough for others to hear in public that homosexuality is a sin.
From what I hear and read Muslims are at least as much against homosexuality as fundamentalist Christians and the countries that still list homosexuality as a capital crime are Muslim dominated so I have no doubt that the police have had complaints.
The UK is pretty bad when it comes to freedom of speech as they have laws that allow them to arrest you for causing "harassment, alarm, or distress".
I would think that would allow them to arrested me for a pro-Bush, or anti-Obama bumper sticker.
Makes me wonder what they talk about in the UK (if they want to stay out of jail).

New Speed Camera

You can see the cop car or motorcycle on the side of the road and you know where the red light cameras are, but you can't see a satellite while you are driving down the road.
Fortunately, that is not quite how they are changing the way they track speeders in the UK (likely because of the expense of an actual speed camera in space).
The plane is to combine license reading cameras, computers and a GPS satellite system to clock average speed between points.
I don't know about you, but I am thinking of those James Bond rolling license plate gizmos.
