Better off expelled?

A Broward county boy was expelled from school for bringing a toy gun to school.
That isn't so unusual in this era of PC stupidity and zero tolerance for anyone who isn't a real criminal, but he is still not allowed to return over a year later.
He is only 8 years old!
The best behaved 8 year olds will absolutely break some rules and this punishment is way out of line.
The only good thing about it is that the school has not been able to indoctrinate him for more than a year.

I hope to hear that the entire school board in that county is voted out.

Meanwhile, another Broward county Dad actually boarded a bus and threatened to kill anyone harassing his daughter.
She hasn't been expelled for "bringing a weapon" on the bus.

Fitting location for Al Gore school

A $75 million school is opening up in the LA area.
It is dedicated to the environment and is named after Rachel Carson and Al Gore Jr..
Its location on a toxic site, next to a gas station that may eventually leak and across the street from an oil well is perfect.
After all, Rachel Carson and Al Gore have both proven to be toxic liars who have polluted our culture and education system with their falsehoods.
I wonder if the name will cause a karmic disaster at the school.

Is this where the kids learn to cheat?

I have long maintained that the ambiguous ethical messages given to students in our schools has help erode societal ethics over time.
Now we have yet more proof that some teachers are incompetent, desperate, lazy, and bad examples to boot.
Under pressure to actually teach children well enough for them to pass standardized tests, teachers all over the US are suspected of  (and being caught) altering test scores, coaching students during tests, and even publishing study guides by breaking the rules and viewing and copying the tests before they were given.
Proving that administrators can also be incredibly stupid, one case involved changing the answers on so many questions of so many tests that it was judged impossible for the level of improvement shown to have happened.
When confronted, the guilty parties broke down and confessed.

Can we please start being as upset about bad teachers as we are about bad cops?
Can we eliminate the tenure system (that no longer makes sense, if it ever did)?

"Home School" a cover for dropouts?

Texas schools are under scrutiny after the possibility of fraud in the Home School program came to light.
US statistics show that more than 70% of Home Schooled kids are non-minority children of college educated higher wage parents.
In one Texas district, most of the children listed as Home Schooled are minorities with parents that are low wage and less uneducated.
Students listed as "Home Schooled" have tripled in number in the last decade and have outpaced other states.
It (finally) occurred to some bright light in the system that this may be the schools way of hiding a sky high truancy or dropout rate (Ya Think?).
Now they want to crack down on the possibility of fraud by making it more difficult to list children in this category.
This is a good idea since some districts only require a "record of an oral statement from the parent/guardian"

Will this make it tougher on parents that really are home schooling their kids?
I hope not.
